Supported Interventions
MindFreedom Kenya supports community based rehabilitative schemes in areas of work with programs for substance abuse, mental health rights, mental health reforms and advocacy for human treatment of persons with psychosocial disabilities.
The mental health campaign has never been quite elaborate based on the government statistics budget allocation to mental health. This problem accelerating very fast and every village and homestead is now in deeper threat as evidenced from:
- Increased number of illicit drugs (substance abuse) and alcohol abuse.
- Increased upsurge of serious human and economic effects of illicit substance production and abuse.
- Inadequacy in family support systems for persons with substance abuse challenges and for the psychosocially disabled.
- Exclusion of people with psychosocial disabilities in mainstream economic development and decision making.
- Social welfare assistance for homeless people and the elderly exist but none for the psychosocially disabled.
- Pre-occupation with HIV/AIDS epidemic.
